Manuel González, CEO of IGNIS Renovables, highlights the key role of data centers at RENMAD DataCenters

IGNIS took part last Thursday in Zaragoza at the latest edition of RENMAD DataCenters, a forum where experts from the energy, technology, and institutional sectors discussed the development of digital infrastructure in Spain. The CEO of IGNIS Renovables, Manuel González, spoke on the panel titled “Are data centers the new major ally of the power system?”, sharing the company’s perspective on the challenges and opportunities accompanying the rapid deployment of these facilities.

During the discussion, it became clear that data centers are no longer viewed solely as large electricity consumers, but rather as energy players capable of providing flexibility, efficiency, and grid stability. Among the key points highlighted was the importance of self-consumption and local renewable generation as essential tools to reduce carbon footprint and improve operational efficiency. The debate also addressed the participation of renewable generation in ancillary services, contributing to grid stability, as well as the crucial role of intelligent management systems in enabling operational flexibility and better synchronization with the dynamic needs of the power system.

Manuel emphasized IGNIS’s experience and approach in this field, highlighting:

·Integrated energy solutions developed by the company to enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and competitiveness of data centers.

·Progress in self-consumption projects with renewable plants specifically tailored to their energy needs.

·Participation in a regulatory sandbox together with the Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico and Red Eléctrica de España to promote the role of the demand aggregator and contribute to the stability of the power system.

·New opportunities for data centers to fill voltage gaps at nodes with high renewable generation, strengthening security of supply.

With its participation at RENMAD DataCenters, IGNIS reaffirms its commitment to an advanced, sustainable energy model integrated with the country’s digital infrastructure.
