IGNIS becomes the first independent representative to manage a battery in Spain
IGNIS Energía has set a new milestone in the Spanish energy sector by becoming the first independent market representative to manage a battery in the country. The company has launched a 1 MW stand-alone facility in Lekunberri (Navarra), integrating it into an intelligent management system that combines renewable generation, storage, and energy demand.
The battery will allow IGNIS to offer services in the daily, intraday, and balancing electricity markets, providing flexibility and stability to the national grid. This initiative strengthens the company’s position as a benchmark in Adjustment Services with Renewable Power Plants in Spain and Portugal, now expanding its reach into the field of storage.
The project, part of the ACADIEMS program, is being developed in collaboration with Statkraft, Electra Valdizarbe, Geoactio, the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER), and NAITEC. It also incorporates second-life batteries supplied by BeePlanet, promoting circular economy practices in the energy sector and reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.
“Being the first to operate a battery as independent market representatives allows us to continue contributing to the robustness of the electricity system and to move forward in the energy transition” highlighted Santiago Bordiú, CEO of IGNIS Energía.
With this initiative, IGNIS takes a step forward in integrating storage technologies into the Spanish grid, at a time when these solutions are consolidating as a key element for the transition toward a cleaner, safer, and more flexible energy model.
